If you are interested in adopting a TruTails kitten be sure to read our Placement Information, and terms of sale then fill out and submit an Adoption Questionnaire, this will reserve your spot on the waiting list for the current litter. Kitten placement starts at $500. If there is a specific kitten you are interested in, please let us know. Be sure to check back for updates on current kittens and new litter announcements, also you might want to review our breeding plans. PLEASE NOTE: We maintain waiting lists for both show and pet homes for EACH litter as they are born. We do not reserve kittens prior to 10 weeks of age, after 10 weeks kittens may be Tentatively Reserved by prospective families (see legend below). After 12 weeks of age kittens may be Reserved or Adopted. We encourage you to inquire if you are interested in any kitten. Reservations are made based on our evaluation of the kitten's show/breeder or pet quality, and to best meet the desires of the potential adoptive parents ~ male/female, colors/patterns, etc. We also take into account the individual "purr-sonality" of each kitten as we match them with future adoptive homes. We reserve the right to refuse any potential kitten buyer.
Availability Definitions

Available Companion/Pet ~ This kitten has some small fault according to the written standard (ie: tail to short, ears a bit small...), usually nothing that would be of concern for a pet buyer but it could perhaps keep this kitten from doing well in the showhall.
Available Show/Alter ~ We believe this kitten has the quality/temperment to be successful as a show kitty. However, if you are NOT interested in showing, but you ARE interested in this particular kitten please let us know... Many of our kittens are 'show quality'... but we end up placing most of these kittens as PETS, there are simply not enough show homes to go around!
Available Show Home ONLY! ~ Occasionally you will see a kitten listed as 'show home only'... in this case we want this kitten shown! You must be a serious show home, and willing to 'co-own' the kitten with us until it attains the desired title or we decide the title is not attainable.
Under Evaluation ~ This kitten is being evaluated for pet/companion or show/breeder quality. Because our goal is to continue to improve our breeding program and affirm we are on the 'right track' we will keep some of our kittens to show and/or to continue in our breeding program. Please understand it may take several weeks to make a final decision about some of these kittens. However, if you are interested in a kitten 'under evaluation' please let us know.
Tentatively Reserved
~ Someone has expressed a serious interest in this kitten. However, a 'Tentative Reservation' is not final! We know plans can/do change... so if you are interested in a 'tentatively reserved' kitten please let us know. We will notify you if the kitten again becomes available.
Reserved ~ a deposit has been made ~ this kitten is waiting to be picked-up or delivered to their new adoptive family.
Adopted ~ this kitten has left our home for their new home! Be sure to take a peak at the Trutails Families Album and Proud Parents Album for photos of adopted Trutails kittens and their families!

Sorry, we do not maintain an ongoing waiting list ~ we suggest you check back periodically and advise us of your interest in future litters.

We love hearing from you, and do not mind answering questions as soon as we have a minute, please feel free to write, snickers@trutails.com

General Placement Information

~ We screen prospective buyers extensively, these kittens are our babies; we have a great deal of time, effort, expense and emotional involvement in creating and raising our kittens and we strive to find equally caring homes for them where they will provide a lifetime of joy, amusement and loving companionship.
~ We do not take reservations on kittens until they are at least 10 weeks of age.
~ Only after they have recovered from their first shots do we allow supervised visits and only then will we take a deposit to hold a kitten.
~ Kittens go to their new homes at 12-16 weeks of age.
~ Kittens receive vaccinations against feline upper respiratory illnesses (URI) at the ages of nine and twelve weeks.
~ Kittens are given "baby names," it makes it easier to identify which kitten we are talking about to potential buyers. However, rest assured, the kittens can be registered by you with a name of your choice, except in the instance of an older kitten that has already been registered and shown.

~ To ensure that kittens will be happy, healthy and ready to explore their new environment, we want them to be fully recovered from their last vaccination prior to letting them leave. We encourage new owners to consider one last URI vaccination at 16 weeks of age and a booseter at one year is recommended to fully finish off this vaccination series. Annual vet checkups are advised, and vaccinations every third year, per AAFP guidelines. We do not recommend the use of FeLV or FIP vaccine. Neither vaccine is necessary for indoor-only cats and the FIP vaccine has NOT been proven to be efficacious or preventative enough to warrant its usage. Rabies vaccinations are required where we live, however, because rabies is one of the vaccines more likely to cause a vaccine-site sarcoma we believe its usage should be limited so we leave that up to the new owner based on the requirements of the kitten's new location. If you choose, or are required to vaccinate for rabies, please, ask your vet to use a rabies vaccine with a reaction free adjuvant. NOTE: We strongly recommend that cats in homes with small children be vaccinated for rabies for everyone's protection.

~ ALL TruTails pet/companion kittens must be spayed or neutered -- there are no exceptions to this rule!
~ NO TruTails cats/kittens will be declawed!

Our Adoption Process

~ If you are considering adopting a kitten or retired adult from TruTails, we ask that you read and agree to the following:

Definitions of TruTails Companion/Pet, Show/Alter, Breeder

TruTails Cat/Kitten Adoption Contract

TruTails Cat/Kitten Care Information

~ If you agree to our terms, we will need to learn more about you ~ your home situation, what you're looking for, etc. We have a questionnaire for potential buyers to complete and return to us to be considered as possible adoptive homes for our babies. When responding to the adoption questionnaire, be sure to specify if you are interested in a "companion/pet" or a "show/alter" cat.

TruTails "Companion/Pet" Adoption Questionnaire

~ We will review your completed questionnaire and will let you know if any kittens from the current litters are still available.
~ Come for a visit. We encourage all members of the family to come for the visit. If everyone agrees on a potential adoption, we will ask for a deposit in order to hold the cat/kitten. We will go over the reservation and adoption agreements and settle on a delivery date.
~ Whenever possible, we like to deliver the cat/kitten to your home.
~ We follow up on placements on a regular basis. We promise not to be pests, but we do want to be informed from time-to-time about the cat's continued health and happiness.
